The Other Side of Darkness (Series)
The Other Side of Darkness explores the city of Feryl, ruled by the merchant class, and its surrounding and subservient states. Magic disappeared long ago, its story only legends and its secrets destroyed, lest those in power fall. Remnants remain, however, and ambitious magi and their unwitting allies help to restore magic for the good of all, or at least that's what they claim.
“Destiny is a ride on the back of a wild beast. You can’t control it. You can only slap its hide and hope it takes the path you want.”
Nila cares nothing for destiny. She steals relics for the danger. Running the roofs, evading guards and dodging traps in her pursuit of these coveted but illegal artifacts makes her heart race, reminds her that she is more than just the ghost of a girl forced to flee her homeland.
Danger turns deadly, however, when a cloaked stranger lures her into a plot to rekindle a magic that once destroyed a world. Destiny is driving her down a path of horror and darkness, and she must change its course before she loses everything.
Baken Juul never questions his fate as a shepherd in Dundarin until he meets Niin, a captured ghost bear who he believes is the embodiment of the goddess Eeno. When she is sold to a stranger and taken away, Baken decides to follow Niin wherever she may go. He faces many perils and setbacks on his journey, and makes decisions Eeno would weep over. Beaten half to death one evening, Baken is rescued by members of the Children of the Goddess, an ancient cult who were supposed to be dying out. Now, the cult is growing, fueled by the Prophecy of the Restorer, and the Children want Baken to become one of them.

A rivetting story of family, betrayal and hope set in the rugged and beautiful Canadian Shield - OUT FOR TENDER
North of 7
“Secrets had to be shoved under carpets or buried out in the fields unless you wanted the whole town and two towns over to know. A family’s dignity was about the only thing people around there could afford in those days, and no one wanted to be—or was allowed to be—the one to destroy it.”
Amidst the stunning landscapes of the Canadian Shield, two women, mother and daughter, grapple with the enduring legacy of not raising a fuss. North of 7 explores the intergenerational trauma that comes when women’s voices are less than men’s. Both have held their tongues until a gut-wrenching situation makes keeping quiet a choice they can no longer make. Birdy and her mother, Ellen, learn their voices hold power, and can be used to protect, heal and change the future.

About the Author

A glutton for stories, her greatest love has always been sci-fi/fantasy, especially when characters fall somewhere between good and evil. Jill lives in Hudson, Quebec with her burr and mud-tangled dog, two amazing children and a man she just might marry someday.
